- include a developmentally appropriate curriculum focused on the mindsets and behaviors all students need for postsecondary readiness and success
- are delivered to all students
- close achievement and opportunity gaps
- are provided by a state-credentialed school counselor
- result in improved student achievement, attendance, and discipline
Individual Counseling
I provide individual, short-term counseling for issues impacting a student here at school. Students can be referred by their teacher, a parent, or themselves. Common topics students may need help with at this age are conflict resolution, coping skills, and self-control. I do maintain confidentiality with students unless they tell me someone is hurting them, they want to hurt themselves or they want to hurt someone else.
Classroom Counseling
Each class attends classroom counseling once a month during computer. Lesson topics are chosen by data collected from teacher needs assessments, parent/stakeholder input, and school-wide data on discipline, achievement, and attendance. Desoto County Schools also uses Core Essentials as our social and emotional curriculum. Topics for classroom counseling may include conflict resolution, responsibility, coping skills, and kindness.
Group Counseling
Small group counseling can be provided to students sharing the same concern. Concerns may be related to academics or a social/emotional topic.
